Try though we might, we earthlings have been unsuccessful in our ongoing quest to find aliens from outer space. Here are three scary possibilities for why that has been the case. Number one, they’re all dead. Much of our searching is done by way of a radio signal detection. A research team led by French astronomer, Claudio Grimaldi proposed that by the time those signals get here, the alien societies that sent them will be long gone. Within that theory is a very uncomfortable suggestion that civilizations are often short-lived. Number two, the universe is just a simulation. Yes, like the Matrix. If that’s the case, a number of physicists from MIT, the University of Maryland and New York University suggest, “We will not make contact with extraterrestrial beings until our programmer overlords say we can.” Number three, they are more advanced or watching us and could destroy us anytime. While earthlings have made great strides in science, a significant number of space mysteries remain. For all we know, we’ve been on various alien civilizations' radar for some time. Also unclear is what their motives may be. While those possibilities range from unsettling to terrifying, keep in mind that they are all suggestions and that any aliens, who may be out there, could be just as curious and mystified as we are.
